A friend recently told me she did a bible study that focused on the fact that we shouldn’t focus on our dreams and see how God fits into them, instead we should be seeing where God is working in our lives and then submerge ourselves into what He’s already doing… that way we aren’t pushing our own agendas.
This was profound to me, as David and I continue to pray about what’s next for us. The last year and a half we’ve been thrown into the whirlwind of learning all about social media, starting this blog and our website, editing and releasing our book and starting a speaking ministry. We are always trying to make sure God’s in the middle of our plans and that we aren’t working outside of what He’d want from us. It’s been pretty apparent to us that God’s been prompting all of these activities because most of them wouldn’t be things that we would volunteer for.
As of lately, we’ve been trying to figure out what God’s got in store for us in the near future. David and I are actually contemplating stacking hands with a ministry that we’ve been involved with for many years. We kinda had an “ah- ha” moment recently when we realized that our “what’s next” might have been staring us in the face for quite some time.
As we’ve become empty nesters, I’ve been pushing to become a Snow Bird- meaning I’m ready to pack up my bags and sunscreen and relocate for a month or two someplace warm during January or February. David’s always pushed that if we ever do something like this, we can’t just plan on laying around on the beach for 8 weeks, reading our books and sipping iced tea as we relax with the lapping waves of the ocean. He thinks we need a place to plug in and to serve while we’re away from home for that length of time…. As I think about this, I do see his point. We aren’t made to just sit around and do nothing. We’re made to serve others… It pleases God when we put others before ourselves.
This ministry we’re thinking of volunteering more with is the perfect opportunity. It’s a place that our family has gone for years and we truly believe that God is at work there. We’re super excited to be able to plug in to what’s already being done, if that’s God’s will for us… We will just have to see.
Please join us in praying for direction and discernment as we travel to Colorado and make some important decisions in the next couple of weeks.
