1 Corinthians 10:31
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
This past weekend David and I had the amazing pleasure of preparing and serving the meal for a very special couple’s wedding. What an honor- to be trusted with this responsibility on one of the most memorable days of their lives. Our mission was to serve appetizers to over 200 guest. The Bride & Groom didn’t want to serve a traditional cake- they both love pie. So together we came up with the creative idea to make individual pies in small, glass jelly jars. How Fun!
The past several months we’ve worked on narrowing down the menu and figuring out the quantities we’d need to pull this off. But, honestly, that’s the easy part. The tricky part comes down to the two or three days before the celebration. So we called in our Troops. We have wonderful friends and family members that come alongside us whenever we ask.
The old saying, “Many hands make light work” is definitely true!
There’s no way David and I would have been able to prepare the generous spread by ourselves. Our troops helped whip up fillings, rolled up tortillas, baked sandwiches, crushed Oreos, ran to the store for emergency supplies, made a sweet tea run, taste tested, washed dishes, loaded boxes into our vehicles, replenished food when needed and so much more.
While there were many tasks to accomplish in a short period of time, it wasn’t all work and no play. We had plenty of fun along the way. Laughter could be heard beyond the walls of the church kitchen but I feel like our time together was more than just a bunch of people that came together to prepare food. David and I have a shared desire to try to serve others whenever we can and we pray it might rub off on others and that they will also find ways to bless someone else along the way.
One of David’s favorite scriptures is Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve…” it’s a great reminder to us that our goal should be to put the needs of others before ourselves. Scriptures also encourage us to serve with a happy heart – we don’t hear Jesus grumbling when he turned water into wine or healed the sick. So when we put in countless hours for a project or we’re tired and aching from being on our feet for days, preparing food for 200 people, we need to remember the reason we’re doing it- it’s to be like Jesus. We want to love on people and sometimes in order to show them that love we must be willing to graciously serve.
David and I want to thank the countless friends and family members that have served alongside us over the years in our sometimes crazy endeavors and we especially thank the Troops that came to our side this past weekend who made chopping, dicing, mixing and stirring a fun adventure! It was an honor to serve with you.

Everything looked beautiful and tasted great! One of my first memories of you and Dave was the day you rolled into SJHS with a grill/smoker and treated the staff and students to a cook-out. Your family is a blessing to many!
