Some of you may remember a guest post from last July titled, “Jenny’s Story” that was written by my cousin Tom’s wife. The post introduced you to Jenny and Tom and their three amazing kiddos, Scarlet, Fritz and Clementine. Fritz was born with retinoblastoma, or eye cancer, and has undergone many treatments to save his vision. Scarlet was born with a very rare condition called, Schinzel Giedion Syndrome. Her life expectancy was just 2 years, but Scarlet is a feisty red-headed warrior who continues to defy the odds stacked against her. She’s 6 years old. This family has been through so much, yet I’m utterly amazed at how they’ve chosen to focus on the needs of their children and to try to provide them with the best medical care possible and they’ve taught those of us on the sidelines the true meaning of selfless, sacrificial love.
At this moment, Scarlet is struggling. She’s recently been hospitalized and Tom and Jenny
are having to make some very difficult decisions. Decisions that no parent should ever have to make, yet they are continuing to put Scarlet’s needs in front of their own. My heart breaks and the warm tears flow down my cheeks as I write this- just thinking about what they are facing tears me apart. I cannot imagine.
Today, I’m sharing a post that Jenny wrote on her Facebook page a couple of days ago. I thought you’d like to have an update on what’s going on. More importantly, I’d like to ask for your help. I’d love to shower this family with love and support during this time, to show them that they are not facing this battle on their own. David and I live 600 miles away from Tom and Jenny, and we feel so helpless. I’m hoping this might be a way to love them from afar.
Please show your support by writing a note in the comment section below. Tom and Jenny will see these comments and hopefully feel the love of the body of Christ surrounding them. I thank you in advance for helping us with this.
