David and I have had the amazing privilege to travel to different venues the past two months, promoting our new book and starting our new speaking ministry. I have to tell you, it’s been a little overwhelming. We have been completely pushed out of our comfort zones, by agreeing to do public speaking in the first place because both David and I would much rather be behind the scenes, encouraging someone else to get out on the stage or in front of the camera. However, after lots of nudging, we stepped out in faith and relied heavily on God and the wonderful team of people he’s placed in our lives the past couple of years who have supported and trained and assisted us to start this process.
Over the past few weeks, we have begun to come into contact with people who have actually read our book and they’ve come up to us to share their thoughts about what we’ve shared. Many of them have also shared how our story has impacted and inspired them or others that they know that have read the book. This is where things get a little uncomfortable for me…. It’s incredibly humbling to hear that our story can inspire others. We’ve literally just tried to put one foot in front of the other the past 16 years. We’ve done it right sometimes and at other times, we’ve struggled and made mistakes. We consider ourselves just normal, ordinary people who have been trying to do life together and it’s very strange to think that other people can learn anything from us at all. David and I struggled writing Walk Through Fire, because we didn’t know who would want to read it besides our own mothers and immediate family. Our hope was that others might be able to relate to our story and find some encouragement but when it actually starts happening, it’s a bit overwhelming.
We are truly honored to have the opportunity to write and speak about all that God has done for our family. We’re overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve received. Our continued prayer is that God is seen in our story and that people will be drawn closer to Him and that people’s lives will ultimately be changed. We’re blessed that God has equipped us for this project and for our upcoming speaking engagements. We’re reminded that He doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called. We feel so inadequate to share His message, but He has nudged us into this endeavor and He has helped calm our jittery nerves, brought opportunities to us and linked us up with the right group of people who has assisted us along the way.
Our prayer is that we don’t ever take our eyes off of Him and that pride won’t take over. It’s so easy to get all puffed up when someone comes up and tells us how our story has inspired them or made them think differently about a situation they’re going through. In actuality, it’s all about God- not us!
